Editor's Viewpoint: Baron Adams is it?

Good Lord Gerry, can it be true? As an MP you declined to sit in the House of Commons because of your republican beliefs.

But did you, even unwittingly, have to accept being made Baron Adams in order to resign your west Belfast seat to seek election in the Republic's forthcoming poll?

You say you were neither offered nor sought paid Crown office - under a centuries-old procedure MPs have to apply for such office when stepping down - but the Prime Minister said you did? Are you a victim yet again of perfidious Albion? Sure it's bound to be more straightforward down south.
