Editor's Viewpoint: Celebrate women

This is International Women's Day, but do we need a special day to mark achievements of women? Sadly yes, even if women now enjoy greater equality than at any time in history.

They are still under-represented in politics and in boardrooms and that is in the developed world.

In the developing world their lot can often be much worse with poor education, employment and health prospects. And they are the prime targets when it comes to human trafficking and exploitation. It is good to celebrate advances in opportunity for women today, but also to be mindful of the discrimination they still face.
