Editor's Viewpoint: Countdown teen is our bright star

Northern Ireland and teenagers usually get a bad press.

Usually when either is featured in national news, it is because of some negative image. Eoin Monaghan, a 14-year-old Banbridge schoolboy is doing his best single-handedly to portray his peer group and his birthplace in a positive light.

He has stunned audiences of the cult television show Countdown with his literacy and numeracy skills, winning a series of contests without |breaking sweat. If the NI Tourist Board or Invest NI want a positive role model to front their |promotional campaigns they could do a lot worse than use this bright teenager.
