Editor's Viewpoint: Don't size men up
News that major retailer Debenhams is to use fuller sized mannequins for clothes display is a further indication of the rebellion against the fashion industry’s insistence on stick-thin models.
Most women are nearer the size 16 of the new mannequins than they are to the figures of traditional super-models. Now they will get a truer image of how clothes they want to buy would look on them before they purchase.
But let us hope that retailers don’t get too realistic and start using pot-bellied mannequins with comb-over wigs to display male clothing lines.
