Editor's Viewpoint: Fearless females

Feisty trade unionist, Inez McCormack, is understandably delighted that Hollywood’s leading lady, Meryl Streep, is to portray her in a new Broadway play.

Inez, who has campaigned ceaselessly for women’s rights in Northern Ireland, is one of seven women from around the world whose stories will be |told in the drama.

Very often American portrayal of life in Northern Ireland is romanticised or dramatised beyond recognition, but it is unlikely that Inez would allow even the formidable Ms Streep to stray far from reality. It is debatable which woman will be the more nervous on opening night.
