Hundreds of thousands of people have lived in Housing Executive homes.
Tens of thousands have bought them at discount prices giving themselves an otherwise unaffordable step into home ownership. For the past 40 years the body has been a byword for fairness in allocation and for the quality of its properties.
Now it is likely to be dismantled and its functions dispersed.
