Editor's Viewpoint: Inspired policing

What a po-faced lot some politicians are. There have been complaints of inappropriate behaviour directed at a police officer who used a novel way of quelling a disturbance in the Twinbrook estate on the outskirts of Belfast.

When his Landrover came under attack from bottle and stone-throwing youths, the officer played some ice-cream van music over the vehicle's tannoy. Even the drunken youths saw the funny side of it and halted their attack. The officer deserves promotion, not discipline action, and his critics should chill out.
