Editor's Viewpoint: Ireland came calling
Just when it seemed as if the Irish rugby dream was ending on Saturday, the boys in green reached deep into their reserves of strength and skill, and triumphed over England.
After the euphoria of last year’s Grand Slam, the hammering by a talented French side in Paris was a rude reminder of rugby realities. It was imperative that Ireland should beat the ‘old enemy’ at Twickenham, but until almost the last minute it was all a close-run contest.
Ireland deserved to beat a determined English side, and now they are in the mood to take on Wales and Scotland. With such a rich pool of experience in the Irish camp a Triple Crown might just be possible, and this could still be a year for ‘Ireland’s call’. Bring on the Welsh, but let’s take another game at a time, as that Triple Crown looms from the mists of possibility.
