Editor's Viewpoint: It's green for go
It seems both customers and retailers are getting the message that we shouldn't use so many plastic bags, with the number handed out last year falling by 19 million.
There is no doubt the bags are a menace, causing unsightly litter and being dangerous to wildlife.
They also take 1,000 years to degrade, slowly turning into toxic waste. Surely that is a compelling reason for using the many alternative carriers offered by supermarkets including their bags for life and biodegradable products. Going green on this issue has never been easier and we should take the opportunity to do our bit for the environment.
