Editor's Viewpoint: Just the job ...

This newspaper's 100 jobs in 100 days initiative to create more apprenticeships here is bearing fruit. The drive is well ahead of schedule at this, the half-way point in the campaign. But it is not just about creating 100 jobs, but of changing mindsets among both employers and potential employees.

Technical skills have become somewhat undervalued in recent years with third level education seen as the holy grail of education. But now more employers are realising the need to train staff to meet their requirements and more young people accept that vocational training can lead to acquiring vital skills and well-paid employment.
