Editor's Viewpoint: Laughter is the best medicine

It is little wonder that comedian Peter Kay always seems to be smiling.

He will sell more than one million tickets during his current UK tour, making him more millions to add to his already considerable wealth. But then he gives us one thing in these recessionary times which is priceless - a good laugh and a sense of happiness. For despite threats of nuclear war, rising taxes, crime and all the other doom-laden news, there is much happiness in the world, some of which we celebrate in this newspaper today. While bad news may sell newspapers, that does not give a proper perspective. If ever we have needed something to brighten up our lives, it is now.
