Editor's Viewpoint: Let locals be vocal

Published 25/10/2011

It is hard to find fault with an event which will give Northern Ireland positive global publicity as well as putting £10m into the local economy.

But there is one small caveat to the general warm welcome for the MTV European Music Awards being held in Belfast on November 6. Only around one-third of the 8,000 audience at the Odyssey arena will be local people.

Now everyone knows that Northern Ireland people can party with the best of them, so let us hope that the real music lovers in the audience - along with the corporate guests - can kick up a storm when the music extravaganza goes live.
