Editor's Viewpoint: Let's take on world

The Irish Rugby Football Union is exploring the possibility of bidding for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. And why not?

New Zealand, which hosted last year's tournament, has a smaller population than Ireland and is much more remote, even if it does have the most fanatical rugby tradition in the world.

With possible help from the GAA there would be enough grounds throughout the island to stage all the matches and being an all-Ireland sport it would also be a rare opportunity for governments on both sides of the border to co-operate on a mutually beneficial project. The message to the IRFU must be - go for it.
