Editor's Viewpoint: Making waves

The welcome given to the round-the-world Clipper crews during their week-long stay in Londonderry made a huge impression on the sailors who will doubtless spread the good news about the city at their next port of call.

Even the bad weather could not dampen spirits and an astonishing 10,000 people lined the quays to bid farewell to the vessels.

If there is one thing they know how to do well in Derry, it is partying. And if the past week is typical of the locals’ enthusiasm, then next year, when the city celebrates its UK City of Culture title, should certainly be a rollicking affair. We can hardly wait for the festivities to begin.
