When T P Flanagan was awarded an honorary doctorate of fine art by the University of Ulster last year it was recognition of his immense standing as an artist. He was undoubtedly one of the outstanding painters of his generation.
But he was also a man of letters and a close friend of another creative giant, Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney. Both men shared a deep affinity with the Ulster landscape. T P Flanagan has left an important legacy in his extensive collection of work which will now be all the more treasured by those who own his paintings.
