Editor's Viewpoint: One special night
Too often we underestimate the abilities of those young people with special needs. Instead of harnessing their talents we simply offer them more and more help which hampers their development.
Of course, the aid is offered with the best possible motives, but sometimes it would be better to let the young people explore their own capabilities.
Last night pupils from six special schools in Belfast put on a stunning fashion show in the grand surroundings of Belfast City Hall. As well as raising much-needed money for their educational sector, the event showcased the talents of the young people involved. They, rather than the fashions, were the stars of the show.
