Editor's Viewpoint: Our equine heroes

They are our finest athletes at the Olympics. They are in peak fitness, finely muscled and seldom put a foot wrong.

When the pressure was on they rose to the task in hand and beat all their opponents out of sight. Yet they will not be returning home garlanded with the gold medals of victors.

They are, of course, our equine superstars, Uthopia - worth a rumoured £7m - which was part of the Team GB dressage-winning team and Vindicat, which leapt to victory in the show jumping. Since they did most of the work surely they should get the medals and not the riders who merely guided them round!
