Editor's Viewpoint: Play fair, IFA

Even in an era of multi-million pound professional sport, an Olympic gold medal is still a much-desired trophy.

But it is one award which will be out of reach of local footballers unless there is a change of heart by the soccer authorities. The Irish Football Association - like its counterparts in Scotland and Wales - says none of its players can play under a Team GB banner in the London Olympic games next year. This is a self-protection move as there is no real threat to the province's international status by allowing players to take part in this tournament. Come on IFA, play the game and give a local player the chance to be a golden star.
