Editor's Viewpoint: Plea for Olympians

Published 15/08/2012 | 08:00

We make no apology for returning to our plea for all our Olympians - from Team GB and Team Ireland - to be given a proper, officially-sponsored reception.

These inspirational athletes deserve no less, no matter if they won medals or not. Their endeavour, sporting spirit and talent showed us what is achievable.

Any reception would not be just a party, but a tribute to the inclusiveness of sport and how it transcends normal divisions in this society. It would be symbolic of the new, shared Northern Ireland that is evolving and a valuable lesson to coming generations. We're not going away, you know, on this issue.
