Editor's Viewpoint: Preserving Caroline

The future of HMS Caroline has been in doubt for some time but tremendous efforts have been made locally to preserve this distinguished veteran of World War One for all.

Recent reports indicate that a significant sum may be provided by Stormont to help restore the vessel to its former glory and every effort in this direction should be encouraged.

HMS Caroline is a distinctive part of Belfast’s maritime history and she has played a significant role in peacetime as well as in war. There have been some marvellous developments in the Titanic Quarter recently and HMS Caroline should be a permanent part of our seagoing heritage.
