Editor's Viewpoint: Public appeal

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has proved that he is one politician who listens to the public. His decision to suspend roadworks and introduce more park and ride schemes - some of them free - in the run-up to Christmas will be good news for customers and retailers in the target cities and towns.

He deserves at least two and a half cheers for his initiative - it would have been three if he had introduced free on-street parking during the festive season like last year. But it shows what can be done with joined-up thinking and an ear cocked to public opinion.
