Editor's Viewpoint: Pulling no punches

Soccer commentator, Alan Green, writes for this newspaper in a typically forthright Ulster way.

He doesn't pull punches and currys favour with no-one and that makes him refreshingly different from so many so-called sporting pundits. Too many former professional players utter only cliches and sound-bites which neither inform nor provoke debate.

That is something Alan can never be accused of. Witness his clear declaration that John Terry should now be dropped from the England team to allow rebuilding of the side following the World Cup shambles. Not everyone will agree, but Alan may well be right. At least he has nailed his colours to the mast and made people sit up and take notice.
