Editor's Viewpoint: Ratings disaster
Some media guru obviously convinced Belfast City Council that live streaming of proceedings in the chamber would be a sure-fire hit with ratepayers desperate to see democracy in action.
And the initial broadcast was encouraging with 2,000 people tuning in. But now it seems the novelty has worn off and the council broadcast is shedding viewers faster than ITV's Daybreak show.
Only 160 bothered to view the second instalment from the City Hall proving that the capital's councillors are no great draw. Unless there is a dramatic increase in interest this experiment - which has cost ratepayers £18,000 - will be viewed as expensive folly. This is one television drama which will not run and run. In fact it is already running out of time.
