Editor's Viewpoint: Stars shine bright

Not long ago the race to be Sports Personality of the Year seemed a foregone conclusion with Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins seeming a certainty.

But then came all the Olympic champions and Andy Murray becoming the first man from the UK to win a tennis Grand Slam |tournament for more than 70 years.

And Northern Ireland also has its champions, such as Rory McIlroy winning a second golfing Major, Paralympian gold medallists Jason Smyth, Michael McKillop and Bethany Firth, and our Olympic rowing and boxing medallists. Picking a winning sports personality at either national or |regional levels will be a nigh impossible task.
