Editor's Viewpoint: Test of support

Supporters of the Northern Ireland football team are noted for their travelling, and also for being good ambassadors.

However, their loyalty may well be tested by the geographical and financial challenges in the draw for the next European Championship.

The itinerary will range from Italy to the Faroe Islands, as well as Slovenia, Estonia and Serbia, but neither distance, nor the state of sterling against the Euro, will deter a large core group who will follow their team to the ends of the earth.

True football support is more than cheering the team on. It requires commitment, money, stamina, and above all an unquenchable hope and the will to keep cheering, come what may.

Perhaps the Northern Ireland team will surprise us all in this European contest, but whatever the the result, the supporters are always champion.
