Every time there is a crisis, someone rises to the occasion and does what is needed to help. Jason McGuigan did that during the worst of the flooding in east Belfast helping up to 15 people to safety on his surfboard. His amazing exploits can be seen on this newspaper's website.
Jason modestly downplays his role, denying that he is a hero. But going out to help others after a 14-hour shift at the Royal Victoria Hospital showed that he really does care about his neighbours. Whatever he calls his actions, those he helped certainly regard him as heroic.
