Editor's Viewpoint: The power of prose

The devastating effects of eating disorders, which are widespread, has been extremely well-outlined in a new publication by Belfast woman Emma Scrivener.

In her book titled A New Name, which is being published on July 20, she describes graphically how anorexia affected her and the physical and mental torture which is part of the illness. Eating disorders are potentially fatal, but sadly the charity Eating Disorder Association NI has claimed much more work is required to give people here the same level of treatment as elsewhere in the UK.

It is to be hoped that Emma Scrivener's powerful prose will help ensure sufferers here are given the same help as others in such desperate need.
