Editor's Viewpoint: Well done, Ireland

The Ireland rugby team who performed so superbly last season by winning the Grand Slam and the Triple Crown again acquitted themselves well by a gritty and thrilling draw with Australia at Croke Park yesterday.

No-one will forget the euphoria following Ireland's historic victories last season, and going into a new international season there is always the danger of an anti-climax.

It must be said that Australia were the more impressive for long periods yesterday but the sheer courage and never-say-die attitude of the Irish enabled them to snatch a draw from a game that they appeared to be losing at one stage.

One of the attractions of sport is the fairytale ending, and what better finish could there have been than Ireland's captain courageous Brian O'Driscoll scoring a great try under the posts to enable Ronan O'Gara to square the scores with the last kick of the game.
