Editor's Viewpoint: Who was Van's girl?

Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl has achieved iconic status being one of the most played songs on the airwaves.

It is a great feelgood anthem and is perfect road music as shown by the fact that in the US, where people spend long periods in their cars, it has been played 10 million times on radio.

But who was the mysterious brown-eyed girl? Morrison added further mystery by claiming it was originally entitled brown-skinned girl. So was it a girl from his native Belfast, or some more exotic female, who was the muse for his most famous song? Tell us if you know.
