Enjoy the Balmoral Show, but spare a thought for farmers
For the next few days Northern Ireland's agriculture industry - in all its diversity - will put on its best face for the public and showcase rural life in all its glory at the annual Balmoral Show.
Yet behind the prestige of the equestrian events and the best of breed contests, many in the farming community are enduring hard times. Modern farming involves large investment, but the returns can be much lower than expected or even deserved.
We only have to look at the plight of the dairy farmers and vegetable producers who find the farm gate price bears no relation to the cost paid by consumers in the shops. It can be a tough life.
