Even in death, Thomas Devlin helps build a better society
The unprovoked murder of 15-year-old Thomas Devlin nine years ago as he returned from buying sweets shocked Northern Ireland and his parents fought a lengthy battle to bring his vile killers to justice.
But out of that terrible tragedy has come a tremendous legacy as a foundation set up in the teenager's name helps fund promising youngsters in careers in the creative and performing arts.
Last night, the latest group to benefit from the foundation received their awards.
They now have the chance to carve out the life and career that was so cruelly denied to Thomas.
But even in death he is helping to build a better society and his name still shines brightly in the public consciousness.
