Every penny counts

Residents of a Co Antrim village have certainly found a novel way of getting value for money and stretching their hard-earned cash.

More than 100 of them have joined forces to buy their home heating oil in bulk, saving around £30 on each 500-litre delivery.

Given the high price of fuel in the province, this is an innovative way of tackling the problem. It is the sort of initiative which other communities could copy, providing that the oil companies |continue to offer the discount for large quantities. Maybe it could be extended to other products such as solid fuel or non-perishable household goods. In times of austerity, every penny saved counts.
