Every sports star should aspire to be just like Jack Kyle
Jack Kyle was indisputably one of Ireland's greatest-ever rugby players who even the modern stars talk about in reverential tones. Many of them turned out to pay their respects at a thanksgiving service yesterday after the sporting legend's private funeral.
But it was his work as a surgeon for decades in a remote region of Zambia and his unswerving opposition to racism in that newly independent country which was the true mark of the man. He cared about his fellow man more than he ever enjoyed the spotlight which deservedly shone upon him. Many sporting heroes disappoint with their feet of clay, but Jack Kyle was a true and enduring superstar.
