Exhibition shows we need to harness young talent
The annual BT Young Scientist and Technology exhibition never fails to amaze with the innovative ideas dreamed up by our young school pupils.
The entries from Northern Ireland schools in the all-Ireland competition range from pure science, such as the impact of radio emissions from solar flares, to the practical – keeping track of perishable food to prevent it going out of date, or the invention of a device to stop car water tanks and pipes freezing in winter.
Young people naturally have enquiring minds and can clearly think outside the box.
It is that sort of ability that we need to foster to create a new higher-value economy in Northern Ireland and competitions like this show that we have the talent if it is properly encouraged and harnessed.
