Fireman's lift for exhausted runner a selfless act by Terry
We know our firefighters are exceptional people, often putting their lives at risk to help others. That is what they sign up to do and they expect no special credit for it. But today we hail one of their number, Omagh man Terry Canning, not for some heroic action, but for showing that even off-duty his concern for others remains undiluted.
While competing in the Boston Marathon earlier this week he carried a female runner who had collapsed from heat exhaustion to the winning line.
To him it was a small gesture, but others saw it as an example of his innate kindness and desire to help.
Terry is an all-round winner.
