Food swop takes root
Anew form of exchange which occurred in East Belfast at the weekend provides much food for thought.
A number of people took part in a "food swop" of items which they had grown or produced themselves, including banana bread, biscuits, rhubarb, celery, potatoes and even beer.
This is perhaps a sign of our recessionary times, but it is also a good idea which has taken root across Europe. It encourages initiative, forms friendships and allows people to develop a healthy down-to-earth attitude to life. Let's have more of these food swops.
