Golden chance for our Winter Olympians to shine

The Winter Olympics in Russia got off to a spectacular start despite the political overtones which surrounded the long build-up to this prestigious world event.

Sadly the Northern Ireland competitor Aimee Fuller missed out on the snowboarding finals, but she did extremely well to compete in the Winter Olympics for the first time.

Sometimes it is difficult for armchair sports fans watching television to realise fully the strong competition involved at such a high level, where even the smallest mistake can prove costly. Happily however, another Northern Ireland competitor, Jenna McCorkell is due to take part in the individual figure skating, and she is a seasoned competitor who will carry with her the best wishes of everyone in her native province.
