Great work of animal charities deserves to be championed

Cruelty to animals is a shocking crime, but such is the frequency of reported cases that we are becoming almost inured to man's behaviour. Today we report how a pregnant dog was dumped in a wheelie bin to give birth. The poor animal had such horrific internal injuries that she later died along with one of her six pups.

Compare the attitude of those who abandoned the dog and the caring volunteers who are hand-rearing the pups. We often forget the sterling work of animal charities. While there are many demands on our finances at this time, we should spare some for these deserving organisations.
