Hospice's vital work shines a light in the darkness

Who could not be moved by the story of Michelle Montgomery's battle for life as told by her husband Mark in this newspaper today?

Her extraordinary courage and fortitude in the face of a devastating illness is just humbling. We often hear about indomitable nature of the human spirit, but here it is writ large.

Mark quite rightly also pays tribute to the NI Hospice which helped his wife immensely in her final weeks.

This is a facility on which it is impossible to put a value. The dedication of staff in helping people with time limiting conditions and also their families is deserving of highest praise.

The hospice aims to raise £190,000 through its Lights to Remember appeal next month.

We are confident that the generous Ulster public will dig deep and exceed that target for a most worthy institution.
