How great if public pulled together to fulfil Declan's dream

The story in our features pages today of Declan McMullan, the young Saintfield man with Locked-In Syndrome, is one of the most heartbreaking and also most uplifting that you may ever read.

His life and that of his family changed in an instant and now, communicating only by blinking, he describes his condition as like being buried alive.

His great desire is to go swimming but that will require extensive and expensive professional assistance because of his severe disabilities. How great it would be if the big-hearted Ulster public can raise the cash required to fulfil his dream.
