Our reports today on the two women united by a common battle against cancer are both touching and encouraging. Advances in treatment made possible by ongoing research mean that one of the women, who was given only months to live five years ago, has experienced the joy of seeing her daughter getting married and watched her first grandson growing up.
These ladies are proof of the indomitable spirit that people facing life-threatening or life-limiting conditions often display. They have reappraised their priorities and taken joy from things that really matter, like family support and friendship.
And they want as many women as possible to join them on June 2 in the aptly named Race for Life. What better reason to sign up, raise some money for cancer research and show that you want to beat a disease which could affect any of us.
