Newtownards man Darren Hutton, who helped save a woman’s life after she fell into the flooded River Lagan in Lisburn, is a modest hero who deserves official recognition for his bravery.

Mr Hutton, who was helped by two police officers, members of the Fire Service and his young son Joel, played down his bravery, but while the others deserve credit, it was his initiative which did so much to save the woman’s life. Darren did the right thing in a difficult situation, and there was a positive outcome.

We gladly support the call for public recognition of this quiet and humble hero.
