People everywhere will be horrified by the news of a lightning strike in Lisburn yesterday which has seriously injured a father and his two young children as he was collecting them from school.

The story has an added poignancy because the children had just finished enjoying their annual school sports day. This is a normal, happy activity which families all over Northern Ireland attend at this time of year.

The incident was a terrible, freak accident, and it is therefore all the harder to comprehend.

Our thoughts go out to these innocent victims and their families and friends at this most difficult time.
