Little Lucy's op an awesome example of modern medicine
We often glibly talk about medical advances, taking it almost for granted that new developments are inevitable and that modern miracles of medicine are our right.
It takes something like the groundbreaking kidney transplant operation given to little Antrim girl Lucy Boucher to make us realise the awesome nature of both medical research and its implementation. The surgical team used 3D printing to plan how to put an adult kidney into a child's abdomen. That is thinking so far out of the box as to almost beggar belief, and leaves us dumbfounded at the genius at work in our operating theatres.
