Being a parent is not a simple task at any time, but when your child is born with Down's syndrome and then suffers a stroke and a heart attack at 10 months, leaving the infant with further problems, the burden looks very heavy indeed.

But that is not how Dee and Gary Tasker view their life with Theo, now aged five. They don't pretend that caring for the little boy is simple - indeed, it is demanding - but the joy that Theo can infuse into their lives is immense.

Theo was once a baby star in the ITV soap Emmerdale, and now he is the radiant light in his parents' lives. No matter what the challenges, parenthood brings equal rewards.
