The hospice movement has been one of the great caring institutions in our society.
It has helped to pioneer and develop palliative care for those who are terminally ill but also expanded to provide respite for the hard-pressed relatives of those near the end of their lives and to provide care in community settings.
It was an article in this newspaper that spurred Dr Tom McGinley into spearheading the drive to provide the Foyle Hospice in Londonderry 30 years ago. And this newspaper is proud to honour him with this year's Making A Difference award for his contribution to his community. His vision has played an immense role in the lives of countless families in the intervening years and he is indeed a worthy recipient of this award.
