Massey Force One

It sounds like the plot of a budget Irish thriller movie. Barack Obama, the most powerful man in the world, will be guarded by agents on tractors during his visit to the G8 conference in Fermanagh next month.

Yet astonishingly, those are the vehicles which US law enforcement agents have bought ahead of the summit.

Just what their role will be, of course, remains a closely guarded secret. It is hardly likely to be part of a fast response team in case of terrorist or anarchist threats.

Maybe the agents will hope to pass themselves off as local farmers for covert surveillance work during the summit, which is expected to be a financial boost to the Erne region.

And perhaps locals will be able to pick up a tractor at a knockdown price when the political circus moves out.
