Nesbitts should be given sympathy at painful time

Given his celebrity status, the breakdown of the marriage of James Nesbitt and his wife Sonia will be followed by the usual raking over of the ashes of the relationship and his past infidelities.

But, it should still be remembered that this is a painful experience for both of them, no matter how much they protest that it was a mutual decision.

They have two relatively young children, aged 16 and 11, and the break-up of the family unit will inevitably leave some scars. While the family may have been part of the glamourous showbiz world, that will not insulate them from the same feelings of hurt that any ordinary family would experience at this time.

And they should be given the same sympathy as they rebuild their lives.
