No scalp quite as satisfying as that of the auld enemy

Rugby player Tom Wood feels that the Twickenham crowd is too polite and that visiting teams don't have to face the same sort of hatred that England do in their away games.

Whether he had tomorrow's opponents Ireland in mind or not is uncertain, but there is no doubt that there is a lot of history between the two countries, and not just on the rugby pitch.

But Irish fans don't hate the English team; they just intensely dislike the arrogance that some past players in the white shirts displayed.

There is something very satisfying about winning against a side which seems to feel an entitlement to victory.

Let us hope that Ireland can repeat the trick tomorrow and lift the Triple Crown.
