No walk on the wildside for fans attending 2019 Open
It may seem strange that a golf course preparing to host the world's greatest tournament, the Open, is trying to make sure that birdies are off limits when the contest begins.
But that is what Royal Portrush is planning. It has brought in an ecologist to safeguard the nesting birds and important flora which abound in this great links course.
He has already drawn up plans to keep the nesting sites safe from the 200,000 spectators expected to attend the tournament in 2019 and routes will be devised to stop people trampling over the sensitive grassland.
So it seems the only wildness we will see at the Open are the golfers who hit wayward shots.
